Download Clipboard History

Install it

1. Open the downloaded file.Double-click the Clipboard History .dmg file in your Downloads folder.
2. Drag Clipboard History to Applications.In the window that opens, drag the app icon onto the Applications folder, then eject the disk image.
3. Open the app.Open Clipboard History from Applications. The first time, macOS asks you to confirm opening an app downloaded from the internet; click Open. Its icon then appears in the menu bar. There’s no Dock icon.
4. Finish the setup, then press ⇧⌘V.A short setup window opens. Once you click Start Clipboard History, copy something and press ⇧⌘V in any app.

First-run setup

The setup window has three settings and a start button. Nothing is recorded until you finish it.

• Open clipboard history: the shortcut that opens the panel, ⇧⌘V unless you record another. You can change it later in Settings → General.
• Launch at login: off for new installations. Turn it on to keep your history available after every restart.
• Auto-paste: optional. Enable… asks macOS for the permission described below.
• Start Clipboard History: starts recording. If you close the window instead, recording stays off; choose Resume Recording in the menu bar to bring the setup back.

Upgrading from version 0.0.26 or earlier? You’ll see the setup once, and recording waits until you finish it. Launch at login may already be on, because those versions turned it on by themselves.

Auto-paste permission (optional)

1. Ask for it.Click Enable… in the setup window. If you skipped that, macOS asks the first time you choose a clip.
2. Open System Settings.In the macOS dialog, click Open System Settings.
3. Turn on Clipboard History.Under Privacy & Security → Accessibility, switch on Clipboard History and confirm with your password or Touch ID.

That’s the only permission the app asks for. Recording, searching and copying work without it, and you can switch it off in the same place at any time. The security page explains exactly what it allows.

Updating

Quit Clipboard History, download the latest version above, open the disk image and drag the app into Applications, replacing the old copy. Your history and settings stay, because the app keeps them in its own container folder. This always works, whichever version you have.

To see whether there’s a new version, choose Check for Updates… from the Clipboard History menu in the menu bar, and install it from there if you like. Those updates come through Sparkle, the open-source updater many Mac apps use: each one is signed, and its EdDSA signature is checked against the key built into the app before it installs. Installing this way from version 0.0.27 may fail; if it does, update by hand as above.

To hear about each release, choose Watch → Custom → Releases on the project page on GitHub, and GitHub emails you when one is published.

Official downloads

Clipboard History is published in exactly two places: this page and the project’s GitHub Releases. Both download the same file from GitHub. It’s never sold, and there’s no Mac App Store version, so don’t trust a copy from anywhere else.

The app is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple. To check the copy you installed, run this in Terminal:

A genuine copy is reported as accepted with source=Notarized Developer ID, and the origin line ends with the team ID N7S7ZCZ5P7.
