The biggest update so far: Clipboard History keeps images and formatted text, searches your whole history, and begins with a short setup.
New
- Images copied to the clipboard as PNG or TIFF are kept with thumbnails and paste back as the original image.
- Formatted text (RTF or HTML) is kept with a plain-text version and pastes back with its formatting where the receiving app supports it.
- Link clips: a copy that is exactly one web address, domain or email address is kept as a link.
- Preview (⌘Y) shows the whole clip, formatted text, full-size images and file lists with sizes, with Paste and Copy buttons.
- Copy without pasting: right-click a clip and choose Copy.
- Search reaches your entire history and ranks results by relevance. Before, it looked only at the clips on screen.
- Search also matches the app you copied from, so “Safari” finds what you copied there.
- Pause For: stop recording for 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour or 8 hours from the menu bar.
- A redesigned panel you can resize from any edge (it remembers the size), and a shortcut list (⌘/).
- More keys in the panel: ⇞ and ⇟ jump eight clips, ⌘↑ and ⌘↓ (or Home and End) go to the first or last clip, and ⌘F or ⌘K returns to the search field.
- A short first-run setup: pick your shortcut, allow auto-paste if you want it, and choose whether to launch at login.

- The app runs in the macOS App Sandbox. The first time 0.0.27 opens, macOS moves your existing history into the app’s container.
- Search matches the beginnings of words, ignoring case and accents. Before, it matched text anywhere, so “board” found “clipboard”.
- ⎋ clears the search before it closes the panel. Before, it closed the panel right away.
- Launch at login is off for new installs until you turn it on. Earlier versions turned it on at first launch; after an upgrade, setup shows whether it’s on, so you can switch it off.
- Maximum clipboard item size (1 to 100 MB, 10 MB by default) now applies to text, formatted text and images, replacing a file-size setting that had no effect.
- The excluded apps list adds 1Password 8, the current Dashlane app and LastPass for Safari, on existing lists too.
- The menu bar shows the shortcut you actually use.
- Update checks no longer start at launch. The updater starts when you choose Check for Updates… in the menu bar.

- After updating, the setup window appears once. Recording resumes when you click Start Clipboard History.

Versions 0.0.1, 0.0.2, 0.0.3, 0.0.4, 0.0.7, 0.0.17, 0.0.18 and 0.0.20 were built but never offered as updates, so they aren’t listed. Every release above, with its download, is on GitHub Releases.
How to update
Download the latest version, open the .dmg file and drag Clipboard History over the old one in Applications. Your history stays where it is.
To see whether there’s a new version, choose Check for Updates… from the Clipboard History icon in the menu bar. The app doesn’t look for updates at launch, so check now and then. It verifies each update’s signature before installing it, but installing this way from version 0.0.27 may fail. If it does, use the download instead: dragging the new version over the old one always works.
